FREESAT ahead of the game with BBC RESTART

BBC iPlayer is introducing Restart direct from the Freesat TV Guide.

The feature is being rolled out from Wednesday evening and is expected to be complete by Thursday morning in time for the Wimbledon finals this weekend.

While live restart has been available on some platforms previously, this new implementation removes several clicks from the process.

Viewers who have connected their boxes to the internet will then be able to roll back to the start of the show, without the need to wait for them to be made available via catch-up.

Alistair Thom, Managing Director of Freesat, said: “We’re really thrilled to be the first TV platform to give viewers the chance to restart live BBC pro

rammes, when they have missed the beginning, through our TV guide. Offering Freesat viewers the latest features and a wide range of content is a big priority for us, and this new feature reflects that. Freesat viewers watching Wimbledon can now easily go back to the beginning of the match via our EPG if they want to.”

Live restart was pioneered in the UK by BBC iPlayer, and has been available for web and mobile browsers and for viewers watching on connected TVs for some time.

Already more than half of people watching BBC iPlayer live on TVs use live restart, and almost one in five BBC iPlayer viewers across all platforms use it.

It’s planned to later rollout the feature to other connected platforms.
